FlexiSAF Foundation is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the “Activism that Yields Results: Building the Future Now” Workshop (Cohort 2) in Kano, Nigeria, sponsored by the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund (NYFF).
Over the course of two days, the workshop empowered 80 young individuals from Kano with essential skills and knowledge to become effective advocates for social change, positively impacting their communities.
Workshop Highlights:
Day one of the workshop commenced with presentations on the various aspects of activism, including forms, historical significance, and effective strategies. Participants engaged in lively question-and-answer sessions and enjoyed a fun game activity to enhance learning.
The afternoon session focused on activism in the digital age, with a presentation on leveraging technology and social media. Mrs. Amina Abubakar, Executive Director of FlexiSAF Foundation, led an interactive session on understanding impact, where participants shared personal experiences and perspectives.
Day two began with a recap of the previous day’s sessions, followed by an interactive activity on design thinking principles applied to activism. Participants then engaged in breakout sessions to brainstorm and ideate solutions to real-world challenges.
Special Guests and Recognition:
The workshop was graced by esteemed guests, including Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, Honorable Commissioner Kano Ministry of Education; Ms. Hafsat Adhama, Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Governor of Kano State on Girl Child Education; and Mr. Sa’ad Bashir, Acting Chair, FlexiSAF Foundation; among other distinguished individuals.
Additionally, the workshop featured phenomenal personalities as facilitators, including: Amina Abubakar, Executive Director, FlexiSAF Foundation, a leading voice in education reform and gender equality advocate; Amina Usman, Programs Manager, FlexiSAF Foundation, a seasoned educator dedicated to empowering marginalized children; Sadiq Abubakar Shehu, Program Associate, Bridge Connect Africa Initiative, a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment and healthy living initiatives; and Adamu Abubakar Ishaq, Founding Partner, Braveminds Attorneys, a champion of community development and education access for all; among others. These facilitators brought a wealth of expertise to the workshop, enriching participants’ experiences and empowering them to drive meaningful change in their communities.
Furthermore, certificates of participation were presented to all attendees, and special recognition was given to the most outstanding group and top performers among the participants. These top performers have the opportunity to apply for funding and technical support through the foundation’s incubator program.
Next Steps:
Participants are encouraged to apply the knowledge gained from the workshop in their communities, initiating projects that drive positive change. One of the post-workshop activities planned by FlexiSAF Foundation is a step-down webinar to provide a platform for participants to cascade their newly-acquired advocacy knowledge and skills. Moreso, those joining the incubator program will have access to funding, technical support and mentorship.
Final Remarks:
Mrs. Amina Abubakar, Executive Director of FlexiSAF Foundation, expressed her gratitude to the participants for their enthusiasm to learn, Nigeria Youth Futures Fund for their sponsorship, special guests for their involvement in enriching the workshop, and everyone who contributed to the success of the workshop.
